Congratulations go out to Ken Balcomb, director of the Center for Whale Research, who has been named the first recipient of Salish Sea Science Prize, awarded by the SeaDoc Society.

The award was given last night during an opening reception to kickoff a three-day research conference in Seattle, called the Puget Sound-Georgia Basin Ecosystem Conference.
The conference, which continues tomorrow and Wednesday, will include dozens of talks. See the schedule (PDF 196 kb) or go the the Web site.
