  1. This is such a timely post Chris, as we have just been having conversations with our team about our annual “Welcome the Whales Parade” and festival in Langley (Whidbey Island) on April 18 – 19. We have created a giant “Patch” the Gray whale (who takes four or five people to carry and help swim), and we have many orcas, salmon, jellyfish, mermaids and more in our parade each year – some are the purchased costumes in your blog, and some are home-made. We hold a costume making workshop the morning of the parade, with free supplies for kids and their families (and their dogs) to make their own costumes, and we have several tables of costumes people can borrow to wear in the parade. This year we are hoping to make it an even bigger parade, more on the scale of the Procession of Species parades, and hope to be holding several costume making workshops in the months before the parade for those wanting to make more complex critter costumes. Your blog is an inspiration for us, and a great resource for those wanting to buy costumes – we hope you will all come and be part of our Welcome the Whales in April!
