Locker and the WCCBL

You probably saw the story about Jake Locker. He’s going to play baseball this summer with the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.
The Husky quarterback is a top prospect in baseball as a pitcher/outfielder.
He’s only going to play outfield this summer, and as Dave Lewis, general manager of the team said, it is “football first,” for Locker, who might not make all the trips.
Still, Locker should help put a few extra people in the stands this summer.
The Kitsap BlueJackets host the Bells at the Fairgrounds on July 10-11-12. The BlueJackets go to Bellingham on July 3-5-6.
Ran into BlueJackets’ manager Matt Acker at Legion Field on Saturday, where his Green River CC Gators ran into a surprisingly strong Olympic College team.
Acker said he’s already taken a few calls from Husky fans. “They want to make sure we don’t hit Jake,” Acker said.
Acker’s Gators, featuring four BlueJackets — Ryan Voelkel, Joey Lind, Tyler Owens and James Douglas — were third in the NWAACC a year ago, but OC beat them 12-11 and led 12-1 in the second game before it was called because of darkness.
Locker played at Ferndale High School, just like current OC freshman Danny Hennigs, who was featured in the Sun on Friday in a story written by Terry Mosher.
