Change made at Pacific and Burwell

The in basket: A reader wrote to the Road Warrior blog saying, “Now that Burwell is shut down between Pacific and Park (in Bremerton), I wonder why the
light at Burwell and Pacific isn’t shut off and the intersection made
into an all-way stop until the tunnel construction is complete and
Burwell is reopened.

The in basket: A reader wrote to the Road Warrior blog with the following suggestion, but the blog appears to have eaten the name of the sender. Anyway, whoever the writer was, his or her suggestion has been accepted as worth a try.
‘Now that Burwell is shut down between Pacific and Park,” the person wrote, “I wonder why the
light at Burwell and Pacific isn’t shut off and the intersection made
into an all-way stop until the tunnel construction is complete and
Burwell is reopened.
“Ferry traffic backs up on Burwell westbound
because someone who wants to turn left onto Pacific doesn’t realize
he/she can take a left if no traffic is coming down Pacific.  If
this intersection was an all-way stop, traffic would flow a lot more
expeditiously out of town,” the reader said.
The out basket: Larry Matel, traffic engineer for the city of Bremerton, says they’ll give it a try, and the change was made Thursday.
“We (have) put the signal at Pacific and Burwell on a temporary four-way red flash,” Larry wrote. “We will monitor the intersection operation over the next week.  If everything operates fine, we will keep the signal in this mode until the new signal is installed and Burwell is reopened to traffic westbound.”
