FRAMES: Meegan M. Reid’s favorite photos of 2014

As of the time I typed out this blog entry, there were 3,920 images in my “Published” folder (which is where I save everything that has been published at the, in the print edition or in our various other publications). So needless to say, editing down to even 42 images was tough.

Here is hoping that 2015 brings even more visually interesting stories and moments here in Kitsap! I’m hoping for an even 4,000 in next years Published folder. 😉

Here are my favorites of 2014: (you can click on the photo to advance the slideshow or just let it run on its own)

Oh my, what a year 2012 has been!

I usually go through and total up all the images that we shot through the year…and then I get all scared that the shutters on our cameras are going to blow at any minute because of the obscene number of frames we click, so I didn’t total up ALL of our shots this year. Nor did I total up Larry’s published images since he no longer saves them in a conveniently labeled “PUBLISHED” folder in his archive anymore and I didn’t have time to search through every month to count his images.

But I did total up my published images (online and print) and I was at 3, 411 for the year…which I believe is right around what I’m usually at every year.

It was a grand year full of some really good photos and of course some really bad photos that I admit that I was embarrassed to have put my byline under. I do hope the good photos made up for those “stinker” photos though! And my goodness I’m hoping for an even photo-worthier next year!

Anyhow, here is a slideshow (click on the image to advance or let it run on its own) of my favorite shots of 2012:

FRAMES: 2012 Hipstamatic Views From The “Office” Favorites:

I thought should post my favorite Hipstamatic iPhone app photos that I shoot while I’m on assignment since you know, a camera on each shoulder is just not enough when one is out and about snapping away almost every day and sometimes that iPhone just adds a wee bit of artsy-ness. 😉

Here is a slideshow of my favorites from this year, click on the photo to advance or let it run by itself:

Okay so my total for photos published on and in the print edition for the year was roughly 3,262 photos. I didn’t even bother attempting to add up my total number of frames saved in the 2011 archive…because if Larry’s number made me fear for the life of our camera shutters than mine was most likely just as high (okay truth be told I did have one shutter already replaced this year so my frame count might be a bit higher 😉 ).

Here’s the slideshow of my favorite photos from 2011:

FRAMES: Larry Steagall’s Favorite Photos of 2011

Here is a slideshow of a few (and I stress A FEW) of Sun Photographer Larry Steagall’s favorite photos of 2011.

Fans of Larrys will notice an odd absence of sunsets…it puzzled me as well as I was putting together this slideshow. He shot quite a few of them throughout the year but didn’t include any. I think I’m going to put together another slideshow next week of all his sunsets for 2011 because it just doesn’t seem right not to have a Steagall Sunset recap in his end of the year pics. 😉

And like last year I totaled up our published pictures for the year and Larry ended up with roughly 2,343 photos published on and in the print edition. As for his total of images shot this past year…well I started totaling that up but got really scared of the final number when I realized I was at 28,902 and I was only halfway thorough his 2011 photo archive file. So we’ll just leave it at Larry shot a whole lot of photos this past year.

FRAMES: Meegan M. Reid’s Favorite Photos of 2010

Editing down a whole year’s worth of photos down to my favorite 25 is always a tough but fun task.

Tough because that’s a lot of photos to just pick a “few” from. That’s right I crunched the numbers, and for 2010 (thus far) I had roughly 2,817 photos published in the paper and on the Kitsap Sun website (the majority of course were online in photo galleries). My co-photog Larry is sitting right around 2,882 published photos for the year.

As for the the number of photos Larry and I actually shot this year that we have saved into our archiving system…yeah these numbers made me fear for the longevity of the shutters on our cameras…so roughly (because I’m just going by the # of items in the 2010 archive and am having to take the average of some of the months that the computer is refusing to calculate the file size) our combined total is around 145,000 images. I’m keeping who’s totals were what to myself since Larry and I always blame the other for shooting too much and taking up the most space on the hard drive…let’s just say it’s pretty evenish…but maybe leaning towards me just a little itty bitty bit.

If we had been shooting film, we would have burned through 6,042 rolls of 24 exposure rolls (not counting the ones that the film processor “ate”). And at $2.00 a roll would have cost the company $12,084.

Okay enough with the scary numbers, what am I a mathematician?!?!

Ultimately it’s fun to look back and remember what I saw and captured this past year.

And of course it’s the perfect time to make a few resolutions on photos that I hope to shoot next year!
