More self storage space proposed in Poulsbo

pro-guard-siteWith limited development land available, self storage companies are building up to meet demand. 

That’s the case in Poulsbo where Pro-Guard has proposed a new three-story storage building on the site of its existing facility at 20554 Little Valley Road NE, near Central Market.

The 45,000-square-foot structure would replace a portion of RV parking on the property, according to a notice of application issued by the city.

Pro-Guard submitted the site plan review application Oct. 5. The city will accept comments on the proposal through Nov. 11.

Pro-Guard’s proposal is one of several possible storage developments in the north end of the county.

Urban Self Storage recently submitted an application for a multi-story storage building near Safeway in Poulsbo. On Bainbridge, Urban is considering plans for self storage on Day Road near Highway 305.

U-Haul closes Port Orchard store

soh_uhaul_logoU-Haul closed its Port Orchard location on Sept. 8, just a few months after it opened.

The Olney Avenue U-Haul store shut down because the company was unable to obtain an extension on its contract to purchase the property and its lease ended, according to a news release.

The store had been providing truck and trailer rentals, as well as moving supplies.

South Kitsap residents won’t have to travel far to find U-Haul trucks. The moving and storage giant operates stores in Gorst and Bremerton, and works with several independent dealers in the area.

The county recently approved plans for a large U-Haul self storage center in Gorst.

Application filed for Poulsbo storage facility

A self storage company is moving ahead with plans for a four-story facility near Safeway in Poulsbo.

self.storageSite plan and critical area permit applications were filed for a 90,000-square-foot facility to be constructed on 2.55 acres at the southwest corner of Lincoln Road and 10th Avenue, according to a notice published this month by the city.

The hillside site is situated just east of Highway 305 and south of Safeway.

Two floors of the building would be above ground on the east (uphill side of the property), with two stories below ground.

All four stories would be above ground on the west (downhill) side.

Customers would access the facility from Lincoln Road and 10th Avenue.

A 100-foot buffer would protect the south fork of Dogfish Creek on the southwest corner of the property.

The applicant is Urban Self Storage of Seattle, which also operates facilities near Keyport and on Bainbridge Island. A subsidiary of Urban Self Storage bought the Poulsbo property from Union Bank in 2014 for $545,000, according to county documents.

U-Haul storage center approved in Gorst

U-HAUL LOGOA familiar name in moving is putting down roots in Gorst.

U-Haul recently purchased a storage center inside the triangle formed by the junction of Highway 3 and Highway 16.

Now the county has approved a project to expand the existing facility with a three-story, 50,000-square-foot storage building and attached warehouse.

The facility will provide climate-controlled storage and moving vehicle rentals, according to the notice.

Storage facilities seem to be sprouting up all over these days.

Construction on one self storage complex is underway on Randall Way in Silverdale. It’s set to open next winter.

Meanwhile, a Seattle company is considering a three-story facility by Safeway in Poulsbo.

A Seattle self storage company is considering building a three-story self storage facility across the street from Safeway in Poulsbo.

self.storageThe city received pre-application materials this month for a 90,000-square-foot complex proposed at 927 NE Lincoln Road, between Highway 305 and 10th Avenue.

Plans include office space and a caretaker apartment. Access would be from Lincoln and 10th.

The applicant is Urban Self Storage of Seattle. A subsidiary of Urban Self Storage bought the 2.6-acre property from Union Bank in 2014 for $545,000, according to county documents.

Company representative Travis Ameche said initial feasibility studies are underway for the Poulsbo site. Urban Self Storage also operates facilities near Keyport and on Bainbridge Island.

A pre-application conference for the Poulsbo proposal is scheduled for May 31.

In other Poulsbo development news, ambitious plans for a Best Western hotel near Central Market have been dropped due to challenges, the architect for the project confirmed this week.
