Second CVG Show Draws 800 Submissions

If you’re reading this in the Kitsap Sun ‘s Kitsap A&E magazine on Dec. 5, you could’ve been reading it several days earlier in Michael C. Moore ‘s blog thingie at

If you are indeed reading it on the blog … never mind.

This from the second edition of the statewide CVG Show juried art competition and exhibition:

Two artists from Tehran, Iran are among the 260 entrants from 67 cities across Washington who submitted 800 artworks in to Collective Visions Gallery ’s competitive juried arts show.
The state-wide competition, known as the CVG Show , is the largest juried art show in Kitsap County and one of the largest in the state. The deadline for submissions was Nov. 20 via a state-of-the-art web based entry system called “CaFE” (Call for Entry), operated by the Denver-based Western States Arts Foundation.
Once the gallery staff has reviewed the list for general eligibility, (the two from Tehran are not eligible), the entire collection of electronic slides will be sent to this year’s exhibition juror for consideration. The juror will select approximately 120 pieces to be included in the final show.
Accepted artworks will be delivered to the gallery in late January, and the CVG Show exhibition will run during February. The entire 2,400-square-foot space will be devoted to this show.
The exhibition juror will be Gary Faigin , noted painter, art critic, author and co-founder of the Gage Academy of Art. In addition to selecting the art to be included into the CVG Show, he will choose the works to receive nearly $6,000 in prizes after the exhibit is installed. First, second and third prizes of $1,000, $300, and $100 will be awarded in each of three categories — 2-Dimensional Art, 3-D Art and Photographic Arts — plus the $1,500 Best of Show award. Added to these prizes will be a $300 People’s Choice award.
The show will open for the first time from noon to 5 p.m. on Feb. 1. Votes for the “Peoples Choice” award can be cast on February 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, including from 5 to 7 p.m. during the First Friday art walk. The winner of the People’s Choice award will be announced at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6. All other award winners will be officially posted when the show opens Feb. 1.
Collective Visions Gallery is at 331 Pacific Ave. in Bremerton. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays during February.
