Paradise announces all-musical 2015-16 season

Paradise Theatre in Gig Harbor will go all-musical for their 2015-16 season, which will begin at their longtime Fishermen’s Hall home off Burnham Drive, but could well finish in a different venue.

The new season is being promoted at performances of Paradise’s current show, “Seussical,” which runs through July 11 (a review of the June 20 performance can be found here: http://www.kitsapsun.com/entertainment/theater-paradise-takes-a-colorful-turn-with-seussical_51604748

Into The Woods” will kick off the seven-show season, followed by a holiday production of “Scrooge, the Musical.” Those might be the only shows on the new schedule to be performed at Fishermen’s Hall, which is destined for the wrecking ball to make way for a new development. Paradise’s artistic directors, Jeff and Vicki Richards, have been told they must strike set by the end of 2015, and they’re actively looking for a temporary new home even as they shift a $1.2 million capital campaign into high gear, with the goal of building a new performance space in or around Gig Harbor.

The complete season looks like this:

Sept. 18-Oc t. 10 — “Into the Woods

Nov. 20-Dec. 12 — “Scrooge, the Musical

Feb. 5-27 — “Nunsense

March 11-April 2 — “The Fantasticks

April 22-May 14 — “Next to Normal

June 17-July 11 — “The Little Mermaid

August 5-27 — “Fiddler on the Roof

The company also will put on their annual Haunted House at Fishermen’s Hall in October.

We’ll keep you posted on Paradise’s efforts to find new digs for 2016, and on the progress of the capital campaign.

Paradise pulls a coup by grabbing ‘Spamalot’ for next summer

Gig Harbor’s Paradise Theatre, which annually pulls off an ambitious seven-show season in addition to its regimen of acting and dance classes and youth productions, announced a 2012-13 season that includes the first Kitsap-area production of Monty Python’s “Spamalot.”

The zany musical comedy, based on the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” is slated for the theater’s early-summer slot, opening June 21, 2013 and running through July 7.

Other shows set for productions at Fishermen’s Hall next season include: “9 to 5: The Musical” (Sept. 21 to Oct. 7); “Oliver!” (Nov. 23 to Dec. 9); “Of Mice and Men” (Jan. 18 to Feb. 2, 2013); “Cabaret” (March 8 to 24); “Steel Magnolias” (April 19 to May 5); and “Forever Plaid” (Aug. 2 to 18).

Of course, Paradise is still busy with its 2011-12 season, performing “Anything Goes” through July 1, and finishing up with “Annie Get Your Gun” Apg. 3 to 19.

Paradise will conduct general auditions for its 2012-13 shows by appointment on July 14, and asks that auditioners prepare a 1-minute monologue and 1 minute of a Broadway-style song. Appointments can be requested by e-mailing Vicki Richards at vrichards@paradisetheatre.org.
