It’s a
little early for an Oktoberfest, which
usually runs in late September, but we can forgive Silver City for kicking it
off early this year because not only is this one of two they’ll be
participating in (I’ll write more later about the other two in
Kitsap), this one also is for a good cause (besides drinking
beer).
And really, is there ever a bad time for beer and lederhosen?
Silver City’s annual Oktoberfest starts at 3 p.m. Thursday and runs through Saturday. It’ll be the local brewpub’s 14th year. Profits benefit Kitsap County Firefighters Local 2819 benevolent fund, which provides financial, emotional, and labor assistance to fire fighters and their families in time of need. The local also supports community causes, including fire escape planning for kids, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, car seat training classes, Muscular Dystrophy Summer Camp and Kids Day Safety Fair.
The event includes costumes, Bavarian music, bratwurst and Oktoberfest and Bavarian Hefeweizen beers. Firefighters will be there collecting donations and selling commemorative pint glasses.
