New Seahawks, Old Seahawks, and a Crazy Weekend

No matter what happens to the Seattle Seahawks on the field, you can’t say they’re boring.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh is out the door, but he only started it revolving. Former key (I use the word loosely) players Julius Jones, Jordan Babineaux, Steve Vallos, and Owen Schmitt are reportedly out, too. Mansfield Wrotto was supposed to start at tackle next week. H might somewhere but not for us. Add to them players they brought in this year like Kevin Vickerson and Kevin Ellison and you have a major house cleaning. ESPN is reporting that the Seahawks are shopping OT Sean Locklear.

Here’s the deal. The Hawks were atrocious the last 2 years. That is putting it mildly. I don’t think there is any doubt that the small amount of “talent” that we thought was there wasn’t even that good. Heck, Housh has only 2 teams interested in him – Washington and Oakland – and neither of those two are even contenders. When Minnesota, who is without Sidney Rice for half the year – says no, you’ve got a clearer picture of where T.J. is right now.

I don’t know many of these new names streaming in. I will definitely need to buy a roster next Sunday when I show up to Qwest Field for the opener against San Francisco. The players may not even know each others names.

And what the heck was this thing with Alex Gibbs. The “Godfather” of offensive line coaches quits , er retires, right before the opening game? C’mon! I don’t think he burned out as has been reported. I believe there was disagreement on the direction of the O-Line.

You know, if the Jets weren’t such a compelling team for HBO’s “Hard Knocks” the Seahawks would have made a fascinating back-up this year. And I don’t think it’s over yet. Fasten your seat belt, this might be a fun ride on the Pete Carroll express!
