West Sound Cycling Club Saturday’s Ride

As a lung patient and physically challenged person I'm an avid fan of the
recumbent trike for good health, safe exercise, fun and cycling in general.

That said, I volunteered to sub publicity for our local club,
West Sound Cycling, while Charlie Michel the regular publicity person
is out of town doing a long cycling tour. I am late sending information
about the club's weekly Saturday (tomorrow) ride.

So I'm announcing it here in the wrong place for strictly sports but the
right place for folks who want to ride with a congenial group of neat people.

" Jim Llewellyn will be leading this Saturday's ride starting at 9 am
from The St. Charles Anglican Church in Poulsbo. The route will
cross over the Hood Canal Bridge to the Toandos Peninsula and back

Jim can be reached at 206-450-0101 or at jim.llewellyn47@gmail.com

Daylight savings time has come and now spring is here. Time to get
out those bikes and ride. Mark your calendars for the April 10th
Daffodil classic. There will also be Tuesday evening rides available
starting in Brownsville. Consult your club website calendar for
other riding opportunities.

Note: Bill, Mandy and Leo are working on rider certification through
LAB and plan to be offering classes soon. If you have an interest in
becoming certified in the 101 or advanced program or teaching these
classes, please contact one of them or myself and I will get you the
contact information. "

Bremerton and Navy Success and the West Sound Cycling Club Booth Photos

The new downtown Bremerton IS beautiful… but right now she is similar to a pretty girl all dressed up and no place to go.

We need more Health and Safety Fairs and next time run Kitsap Transit buses to bring people in to the event. We also need passenger boats and Kitsap Transit to bring people in from the outlying districts.

The new Bremerton is a dream place for the possibilities of ultimate luxury healthy living…if a person can imagine walking and cycling pathways throughout Bremerton downtown and meandering through the neighborhoods.

See what Steven Gardner wrote about the folks in the Union Hill neighborhood transforming itself.

Imagine the new lovely downtown expanding itself outward block by block with neighborhood walking and cycling pathways providing walking and cycling transportation and healthier citizens….just imagine the tax payer dollar savings in future medical costs through healthier people due to the energetic outdoor living lifestyle.

The walking and cycling pathways would cross the new Manette Bridge into the homey and interesting Manette neighborhood and shops to browse.

When Port Orchard/South Kitsap gets their walking cycling pathways, they will be a splendid place to cycle and visitors can cross by the little ferry or around through Gorst.

The following photographs were taken by Chuck O’Hara (he is the nice guy who helps me out) at the recent Health and Safety Fair when he took two recumbent trikes down to the West Sound Cycling Club booth for a few hours to show n tells.

Fun, Good Health and Safety tips Meet Up in Bremerton Next Week

Don’t miss it! For early detection COPD, free Spirometry tests are offered at the upcoming 2nd annual Health and Safety Exposition next week in Bremerton.
The public packed information and freebie event runs 18th – 19 August 2010 at the Kitsap Conference Center and extending exhibits along the Harborside boardwalk.
The City of Bremerton and the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Intermediate Maintenance Facility), teamed with others to educate the public on the latest in health and safety…concerns that matter to most of us living in our earthquake fault prone area.

Here is a list of exhibitors…some I want to visit just to know what they do…intriguing names.

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is the 4th leading cause of death in the US, 5th in the world. A disease that takes usually twenty years before the patient has symptoms enough to mention to their doctor. By then about 50% of their lungs are permanently destroyed.

The hope and reality is that early detection can make the difference in a long slow smother or not. The Spirometry test can change life forever in the battle against COPD. Early detection can stop it in its slow lung-destroying mode.

Find the COPD Foundation exhibit on the boardwalk and sign up for the free Spirometry test. Please.

Harrison Hospital Sleep Disorder is another ‘got to see’ exhibit stop. The value of their work cannot be understated; I sleep with a bi-pap that keeps my airway open, thanks to such a sleep study done years ago. Before my bi-pap I once fell asleep in my eye doctors waiting room full of people and awakened to loud snoring …mine…and a few stares and kind smiles

I have to ask them about desaturating while asleep and if the blood/oxygen numbers mean anything when taken while the patient is asleep.

Kitsap Physical Therapy & Sports Clinic is another ‘don’t miss’…especially if you like cycling. They not only do a great rehab job with good people, Anna Marx actually rode her recumbent bike in the recent Seattle to Portland ride. Ask how she did if you see her.

West Sound Cycling Club will be there…a super group of riders in a local club holding rides for cyclists at different levels and ages. They might have a recumbent trike or two there to show seniors and physically challenged people that cycling fun isn’t over…it is only the beginning to a fit and active life again….in my opinion.

Following is a list of exhibitors…our lifeline to good health and safety at work and in our environment … all FREE.
