Steak and Lobster

The (Tacoma) News-Tribune’s Ernest Jasmin has a fun point-counterpoint about Bremerton on his “Bring the Noise” blog. He interviews MxPx drummer Yuri Riley. The group sings “Move to Bremerton” and was in town for a concert at the Admiral put on by the Kitsap County Consolidated Housing Authority. As a counterpoint he interviews Sir Mix-A-Lot, who once performed the song “Bremelo,” about an ample girl from hereabouts.

To get the full impact you’ve got to listen to the audio. If you’re sensitive to feedback about the town (“Bremerton is garbage,” says Sir.), brace yourself. Mix-A-Lot likes Silverdale and says it’s a place he goes looking for, um, never mind. His recollection of Bremerton, even though he performed at the Manette Saloon not all that long ago, only comes from the area around the ferry terminal, which he remembers as a McDonald’s and a bunch of bars. Then he asks where you can get steak and lobster in Bremerton?

Anyone willing to treat Mr. Mix-A-Lot to dinner at Anthony’s and a tour of downtown? Maybe you want to wait until the condos are finished.

  1. Anyone willing to treat Mr. Mix-A-Lot to dinner at Anthony’s and a tour of downtown? …

Well, no, I don’t want to treat him to dinner at Anthony’s…UNLESS…dinner is a salad made from fresh all organic vegetables and garnished with organic seedless grapes, apple slices (Asian Apples), Pluot slices and topped with a few crushed, fresh roasted, lightly salted, peanuts.

After dinner, I will treat Sir Mix-A-Lot to a ride around town on a recumbent trike.
He had better hurry though…the trike he would ride is the trike I rode on the TREK Tri Island last year and I have donated it, my first trike, to the upcoming American Lung Association of Washington’s Benefit Auction next month.

That is the best I can do…considering I do not know the gentleman.

  2. I have to admit… these are pretty amusing.

Of course, at the end of his little tirade, he does apologize to Bremerton and that he’s just kidding. I’m not sure if I believe it.

  3. Someone from the KCCHA needs to call Sir Mix-A-Lot, tell him about Bremerton’s revitalization (again), treat him to Anthony’s or Augustino’s, and then ask him to perform at the Admiral Theatre.

(He won’t though–he knows his time as a rap artist has long since passed.)

  4. …once a rapper, always a rapper, GP.
I like to think our best time is now and if we make it to tomorrow, tomorrow is even better.
The ONLY time a person is “past” anything is when that person is 6 feet under.
    Until then…rap on…
