Two of the Northwest’s declining icons are the focus of upcoming public events on Bainbridge Island.
SALMON
On Saturday and Sunday, actor Peter Donaldson (in photo, above)
will present Salmonpeople, a one-man show about Northwest history’s
links to salmon. The performance will help the Bainbridge chapter
of Trout Unlimited raise local matching funds for grants supporting
fish habitat restoration projects.
“The ongoing monitoring of salmon returns to the streams of Bainbridge Island has clearly shown that we are not seeing the numbers of salmon adults that we should,” said Trout Unlimited member and biologist Wayne Daley. “The results of the last two seasons (of stream monitoring) have been disappointing and indicate we have a tremendous amount of work to do to restore local sustainable habitat.”
