Police Blotter: Man gets in beer can-throwing fight with mom

A Bainbridge man was arrested for assaulting his elderly mother after she pelted him with empty beer cans to wake him up. He tossed a few back at her before stumbling out the door and into the arms of the arriving cops.

Also this week, a woman assaulted her boyfriend after he poured himself a glass of water without doing the same for her.

June 5
Assault rifle: A 24-year-old Auburn man fired an AK-47 assault rifle several times at a 5-acre New Brooklyn Road property just before 5:30 p.m. Several residents in the area reported hearing 20 or more gunshots in rapid succession. A report was forwarded to the prosecutor for possible reckless endangerment charges.

June 4
Drunk: A 20-year-old Bothell man was arrested at the Winslow ferry terminal just before 8 p.m. for showing signs of intoxication while under the age of 21. He was taken to the county jail in Port Orchard.

Assault: A 21-year-old Seatac man was assaulted by an unknown man aboard a Bainbridge-bound state ferry just before 8 p.m. The suspect could not be located. No injuries were reported.

June 3
Drunk: Two 18-year-old Bainbridge men were arrested at the McDonald’s restaurant just after 10 p.m. for showing signs of intoxication while under the age of 21. Police were initially called because the suspects and three other young people were being “loud and obnoxious” in the High School Road restaurant, a McDonald’s manager said. A can of “blue raspberry”-flavored Four Loko, a caffeinated alcoholic beverage, was found in one of the suspects’ pockets. The suspects were taken to the county jail in Port Orchard.

June 1
Theft: About $120 was stolen from a cash box at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church on Winslow Way.

May 31
Theft: A Kingston woman’s vehicle was broken into and a bag stolen while it was parked for a short time at a park entrance on Miller Road just before 8 p.m. Her vehicle’s rear window had been smashed. The bag contained items of little value.

Assault: A 39-year-old Bainbridge woman was arrested for assaulting her boyfriend, a Bainbridge man, at a Wardwell Road home just before 1 a.m. She was also cited for interfering with a 911 call. The victim said the suspect was angry that he brought a glass of water to bed for himself and not for her. She pushed the victim, and then grabbed the phone he was using to call 911. The victim and suspect said they had each had three glasses of wine earlier that evening. The suspect was taken to the county jail in Port Orchard.

May 30
Assault: A 51-year-old Bainbridge man was arrested for assaulting his 70-year-old mother at a home off High School Road just before 6:30 p.m. The suspect, who was apprehended while walking away from the home, was also cited for drug paraphernalia possession when a pot pipe was found in a pocket. The victim initially called 911 to report that the suspect was drunk and “smacking” her. The suspect said he became angry when the victim woke him up by throwing empty beer cans at him. He reportedly threw cans back at her and grabbed her arm, causing swelling and red marks. The suspect, who appeared intoxicated, was taken to the county jail in Port Orchard.

Drunken driving: A 21-year-old Bainbridge man was arrested for drunken driving Sportsman Club Road just before 2 a.m. The suspect was pulled over because he was veering in his lane.

Drunken driving: A 50-year-old Bainbridge man was arrested for drunken driving on Grow Avenue near Shepard Way just after midnight. The suspect was initially pulled over for having blinking brake lights. An officer noticed the suspect had the strong odor of alcohol. The suspect was taken to the county jail in Port Orchard.

May 27
Drunken driving: A 64-year-old Bainbridge woman was arrested for drunken driving near the High School Road-Highway 305 intersection just before midnight. The suspect had made a wide turn, veered into the oncoming lane and crossed the fog line. She was uncooperative with police, repeatedly asking why she was being arrested and whether the officer felt “good” about arresting her. She also stressed that she had lived on the island for 34 years and that being arrested made her feel like she was in a foreign country. She admitted to having “a little too much to drink,” including wine and champagne earlier that evening. She was taken to the county jail in Port Orchard.

May 26
Drunken driving: A 21-year-old Bainbridge man was arrested for drunken driving on New Brooklyn Road near Sands Avenue just before midnight. Police were called after a witness reported the suspect had crashed his vehicle into into a curb on Winslow Way near Ericksen Avenue. Police found the suspect’s vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on New Brooklyn. His vehicle’s air bag had deployed and the vehicle’s front end was dented, smoking and had plants tangled in it. The suspect had a small burn on his arm. The suspect “steadfastly maintained” that he had not been involved in a collision, but could not explain the vehicle damage or airbag. Once arrested, the suspect began to cry and admitted he had been drinking. He was taken to the county jail in Port Orchard.
