Pipe bombs found on Bainbridge

A state bomb squad removed and safely detonated three pipe bombs found on the side of Fletcher Bay Road shortly after noon on Monday.

A citizen reported locating two of the homemade explosive devices along Fletcher Bay near its intersection with Lynwood Center Road. Bainbridge police found a third bomb after arriving at the scene just before 12:15 p.m.

Bainbridge police blocked off a quarter mile of Fletcher Bay Road between Bucklin Hill and Lynwood Center roads until the Washington State Patrol bomb squad arrived and detonated the bombs at a nearby gravel pit. The road was closed for about three hours.

“It looked like somebody tried to light them and throw them out of a (vehicle) window,” Bainbridge police Lt. Sue Shultz said.

The bombs had a fuse and were made of PVC piping, she said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Bainbridge police at (206) 842-5211.
