Can Pumas Silence Timbers Army?
June 16th, 2010 by cstarkNobody in Portland seems to mention the fact that the Kitsap
Pumas beat the Portland Timbers 3-2 in a friendly earlier this
season. There was no reporting of that game in Oregon papers; no
mention of the result on the Timbers’ blog or website.
You know the Timbers will be fired up when they and their rowdy
fans — the Timbers Army — return to Memorial Stadium for the
second-round U.S. Open Cup match on Tuesday, June 22.
Here’s a report on the Timbers’ 3-0 win over Sonoma County on
Tuesday at PGE Park.
The Timbers, who join the MLS in 2011, recently changed their logo,
and it apparently didn’t over too well with the Timbers Army, the
support group. This, from the Offsides Blog, was tacked on the end
of the game report:
Perhaps the most interesting event during the match was the
ten-minute protest by the Timbers Army supporters group. Unhappy
with the club’s failure to consult with the ever-expanding group on
changes to the classic crest, the supporters, usually boisterous
throughout, took a seat and fell silent between the 25th and 35th
minutes. With such a small crowd on hand, PGE Park was eerily
quiet.
