Latest Pumas News: Signings, Visa Issues

The Kitsap Pumas open the PDL season in less than two weeks. The team will be on the road May 1 against Yakima.

Here’s a bit a news from the team, which will hold its Meet the Pumas luncheon Wednesday at the Silverdale Beach Hotel.

Midfielders Greg Miley, Kellen Wantulok and goalkeeper Derby Carillo have signed one-year contracts, meaning Kitsap now has 21 players signed. The only players not under contract are midfielder David Gray and Alex Megson.

Megson played with Kitsap last year and is currently training with the team. But the Pumas already have eight players 23-or-older under contract, the maximum number allowed by the PDL. Megson fits into that category, meaning the team would have to cut one of its overage players in order to sign Megson, who missed the team’s tryouts in March.

Gray was supposed to join the team earlier this month, but the native of Scotland has experienced visa troubles and now is only expected to join the team within the next 10 days. Forward Tony Kerr, who started a majority of last season and scored seven goals, also missed tryouts while playing for the English Beach National Soccer team and dealing with his own passport problems. He has yet to join the Pumas despite being under contract, and the team said it doesn’t know when he’ll arrive from England.
