Collegians: Catching Up With Local Athletes

Soccer
Seattle Pacific: Forward Brandi Hamre (So., Central Kitsap) has one goal and one assist for the defending NCAA Division II champions and No. 1-ranked Falcons. Hamre leads SPU in shots taken with 18. SPU hosts Grand Canyon tonight at Interbay Stadium in Seattle.
Western Washington: Forward Justin Moore (Fr., South Kitsap) has made two starts and appeared in all four games for the Vikings (2-2). Moore, who helped South win a Class 4A state championship and was Narrows League co-MVP, has taken 10 shots and has one assist. … Kelly Cates (So., North Kitsap/Southern Oregon) has played in four games for Western (1-2-1). Cates transferred to WWU from Southern Oregon.
Central Washington: Defender Alexandria Washburn (Fr., Central Kitsap) has made three starts for the Wildcats (2-4-0). C.J. Balstad (So., South Kitsap) is a backup goalkeeper.
Eastern Washington: Morgan O’Friel (Sr., Central Kitsap) is a midfielder for the Eagles (1-3). O’Friel returns after missing last season with an injury.
Washington: Midfielder Dylan Tucker-Gangnes (So., Bainbridge) started 15 games and was third on the team with 12 points as freshman. The midfielder has yet to play this year for the Huskies (1-2).
Whitworth: Travis Gutierrez (Jr., South Kitsap) is a starting midfielder for the Pirates. (1-0-1). … Candyce Eaton (Jr., Kingston) is a defender for the Whitworth women (2-0).
Eastern Oregon: Defender Jennifer Smalley (So., Bremerton) starts for the Mountaineers (2-0).

Cross Country
Central Washington: Shannon Vreeland (Sr., South Kitsap) is a three-year letter winner for the Wildcats.
Eastern Washington: Cody Bradwell (So., North Kitsap) is back for his second season with the Eagles.

Football
Eastern Washington: Defensive tackle Renard Williams (So., South Kitsap) had four tackles, two for losses, in a 35-14 win over Western Oregon. The 6-2, 300-pounder started seven games at nose tackle a year ago as a redshirt freshman. … Ryan Forney (Sr., Central Kitsap) is a returning starting guard for the Eagles, who play at No. 12 California on Saturday. Forney’s a three-time All-Big Sky Academic team member.
Central Washington: Tight end/linebacker Evan Tidball (Fr., North Kitsap) is the only local player on the Wildcats’ roster. No. 9 CWU hosts Texas A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Eastern Oregon: Howie McDonald (Fr., Central Kitsap) is a backup linebacker for the Mountaineers. He was in on five tackles in a 32-28 loss to Southern Oregon last week. Jared Moore (Fr., South Kitsap) is a backup defensive back.
Puget Sound: Running back Brad DeShano (Fr., North Kitsap) and Cameron Salley (Fr., Central Kitsap) play for the Loggers, who open the season Saturday at home against Pomona-Pitzer.
Pacific Lutheran: Andy Sturza (Sr., North Kitsap) is a starting outsider linebacker for the Lutes, who open on Saturday against St. Olaf at Rogers Stadium in Puyallup.

Rowing
Washington: The following athletes are on the UW’s crew roster: Bridget Claycomb (So., North Mason), who rowed on the novice boat a year ago; Birgitte Gingold (Fr., Bainbridge); Madeline Olanie (Fr., Bainbridge) and Erica Knutzen (Fr., South Kitsap).

Volleyball
Washington: Kelcey Dunaway (Fr., Bainbridge) is a middle blocker for the No. 3 Huskies, who are 6-0 and have won their first two tournaments. The 6-foot-2 Dunaway was a redshirt last season.
George Mason: Danielle Cook (Fr., North Mason) is a middle blocker for the Patriots (5-2). She’s played in three games off the bench.
George Washington: Former state 3A MVP Hannah Stuart (Jr., Bainbridge) has played in all six games for the Colonials (3-3). The outside hitter scored 158.5 points on 138 kills and 266 digs while playing in 114 of GW’s 115 sets as a sophomore.
Whitman: Katie Richards (Jr., North Kitsap) is a returning setter for the Missionaries.
