Florida dolphin survives an unusual boat trip

August 6th, 2009 by cdunagan

It was one of the strangest marine mammal rescues of all time.

A 66-year-old Florida woman was driving her 22-foot boat when a dolphin leaped out of the water and landed on the deck.

“We were like ‘Oh my god, oh my god, how are we going to get this dolphin off my boat?”’ Dee Boge told reporter Eric Staats of the Naples Daily News.

The dolphin thrashed around at first then calmed down. On the advice of marine biologists, Boge and her friends kept the dolphin moist on the way to a dock, where biologists checked out the animal and used a stretcher to release it back into the water.

I’m officially on vacation this week, but I was compelled to share this item. I am determined to comment on a couple other new developments before the end of the week. — Chris
