Amusing Monday: Orca chase ends with surprise and relief

April 6th, 2009 by cdunagan

On this Monday, I’ve posted a video of killer whales and a frightened penguin in Neumayer Channel in West Antarctica in 2005.

The video does not need much explanation, but some commenters on YouTube got a little bit carried away about what they thought was happening. The boat driver reported that the killer whales in the video were playing with the penguin, which he believes they could have killed at any time if they wanted.

The driver, who posted several comments as “aceofspades79″ on the YouTube Web site, also says people in the boat were never in danger, as some commenters suggested. The film was shot by a Norwegian man, according to bclark142, who was the one who posted the video and was kind enough to provide the background info.
