Bainbridge elementary gets half its students to ride to schoolMay 8th, 2014 by tristan baurick
Probably no school in Kitsap gets into the spirit of Bike to School Day more than Ordway Elementary on Bainbridge Island.
Ordway, which sits on the north edge of Winslow, regularly gets hundreds of its students to forgo the bus and family car for a muscle-powered trip to school. Yesterday was no different. About half of the school’s 400 students pedaled to school.
The school had a festive atmosphere, with some 200 little bikes cluttering the front lawn and school staff handing out stickers and juice.
Ordway teacher Sean Megy has organized the event for years. He said the weather was perfect and every rider made it to school safe and sound.
“The kids are eager riders and thrilled to be part of a school-wide event,” he said.

The adult version the event – Bike to Work Day – is coming up on May 16. Learn more about it here.
