West Sound Senior Games Schedule of Events
July 6th, 2009 by cstarkBremerton’s West Sound Senior Games take place this week. This is a pretty cool event for the 50 and over gang. Unfortunately, the Games have never really caught on like many thought it would, but they’re still going and that’s good.
The number of events has been scaled back, but there’s still something for everyone if you’re so inclined. You don’t need to be a world-class athlete — or even an athlete — to participate.
Here’s a link to find the schedule of events and more information about the Games:

Here’s a link to the registration form. Cost is $42 and you can enter as many events as you like. You can bowl on Wednesday, throw some horseshoes on Thursday, try billiards or pickelball on Friday and throw the shot put on Saturday before grabbing a couple friends for some 3-on-3 hoops.
And when it’s all over, you can head to the YMCA and try the triathlon: the steam, sauna and whirlpool.

A couple years ago a friend from OR told me about the Olympic Games for seniors and I contacted the person in charge here to find out how to sign up for the cycling races and asked about a catagory for recumbent trikes.
Turned out they didn’t offer bike races at all and the person in charge asked me to put it together for the next year. I told her I didn’t know anything about bike racing but I knew a few folks who do and they agreed to help when I talked with them.
A year later I read a blurb in the paper – the races were almost over.
I didn’t get the notice I was told would be sent to me and not another word about the bike races. How many other folks who call to inquire about the senior games never hear from the folks in charge?
I think having fun senior games is a great idea and under proper management – promotion and advertising AND getting more than a few seniors involved
would make all the difference. Do these folks in charge activily recruit seniors or give talks to senior groups? I’ll almost bet that doesn’t happen.
If they want more participation, they need to go out and get folks involved – make it happen…the idea is great..
