SEVERE WEATHER SHELTER OPEN TONIGHT – FRIDAY 1/27/’12

The severe weather shelter, located inside the Bremerton Foodline at 1600 12th St. in Bremerton, will open at 6 pm tonight and close at 7 am Saturday morning. Everyone who needs to come in out of the freezing cold is welcome! whether you’re homeless or can’t afford to heat your RV or home. Please post flyer where possible.

PROJECT CONNECT THIS WEDNESDAY 1/25 IN BREMERTON

Project Connect was started locally by the Kitsap Continuum of Care Coalition, an organization of approx. 40 service providers/community groups/individuals who are dedicated to helping those without a home and eradicating homelessness in our neighborhoods. It’s goal is to provide a wide variety of services and meet specific needs, such as socks, tents and sleeping bags for those that are outside, haircuts, vouchers, resources, etc. See attached flyer for details. This year, as last, it will be held at the Sheridan Park Community Center on Lebo from 10 am to 3 pm.

BREMERTON FOODLINE IS OPEN NOW AS WARMING STATION

I just found out that the Bremerton Foodline, site of our county’s only severe weather shelter, stayed open today to serve as a warming station. If you know of a homeless person, or someone in need of heat and something hot to eat, and a dry place to be, tell them about it and/or help them get to it. It’s at 1600 12th St. in Bremerton, across from the Bremerton High School. And the shelter is open TONIGHT; I’m thinking the warming station function will run into the shelter function around 6 pm so folks can stay safe inside.

a good working flashlight or two with extra batteries? A radio that works with batteries and more of those, too? Do you have a couple gallons of water for each person in your family – you may be cut off from electricity for a day or two – or three, depending on where u are. It might be a good idea to fill your tub with water to use for flushing. If you own a thermos consider filling it with hot water just in case for tea, boullion, hot cocoa. Do you have a ice chest? If u expect to be without power, consider putting your milk and other frig items in it and cover with ice – leave freezer closed. Make sure you have canned goods or pull tab foods that are ready to eat, along with energy bars, raisins. Make sure you have sufficient blankets, sleeping bags, diapers, medications. It may only last a day, if we do lose power, but it could be longer. Better to be safe.
