Strap seat cushions to the seat
The in basket: Dave Kuehl asked some time ago, “Are there any laws on what constitutes an approved seat cushion a driver may use to enhance their driving position to better see out of their car?”
The out basket: My two principle law enforcement sources, Trooper Krista Hedstrom of the state patrol and Deputy Scott Wilson of Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, agree there are no legal limitations on seat cushions for drivers.
“I’m not aware of any (state laws) that either allow or prohibit seat cushions to assist smaller stature drivers to gain better visibility of the road,” said Scott.
“I would only recommend, whatever device is used, that it is somehow attached to the seat, either through straps or utilizing the seat belt mechanism,” he added.
“I would not recommend using telephone books and the like. In the event of a motor vehicle crash, they become missiles inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle.”
