Bremerton School District has “boarded-up” the old East High on
Sheridan Road.
“However, the local authorities seem to sitting with radar at
Cherry and Sheridan and the 20 mph school zone sign is still up. Is
this a matter of not enough time to take the sign down or are the
restrictions (20 mph 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) still in place?”

The out basket: Lt. Pete Fisher of Bremerton police traffic
division says the department no longer is doing enforcement by
motorcycle officers, the usual vehicle in school zone emphasis
patrols, in that area.
But the restriction remains and can be enforced if any officer
notices the violation of it. The State Patrol sometimes does school
enforcement and might wait for violators there, he added.
The department, city public works and school district are
discussing whether to keep it as a school zone, he said. View Ridge
Elementary remains open on the other side of the old junior high,
and children still walk to and from it through the Sheridan Road
school zone. And the baseball field there attracts young
pedestrians.
The three agencies will decide whether that’s enough reason to
maintain a school zone restrictions on Sheridan, Pete said.
Today (5/9/2008) there were two cops (in cars–not on bikes) aggressively enforcing the “school zone” speed limit in this area which no longer has a school. I was told that about 15-20 people were ticketed today. Someone who gets ticketed should fight this because there is no longer an active school.
