The in basket: Nelson Lanchester , Charles Dick and John Bowman ask if the state still plans to increase the speed limit coming out of Gorst southbound.
The in basket: A lot of readers recall the Road Warrior column from
March 23 in which state officials agreed with a reader that there
is no reason that the speed limit coming out of Gorst southbound to
remain 50 mph all the way to the Tremont interchange. They said the
limit on that stretch would be raised to 60, but left at 50 mph for
the lanes going in the other direction.
Nelson Lanchester , Charles Dick and John Bowman are among the
readers who have contacted me the past two months wondering if the
change is still planned.
The out basket: Steve Bennett of the Olympic Region traffic
engineers sends word that the new signs should be posted the week
of Sept. 10.
The change at Gorst has finally been made. However they changed the speed limit up from 50 to 60 for both directions.
I absolutely agree with changing it to 60 up the hill, but changing the downhill into Gorst to 60 is incredibly dangerous! I commute that stretch every day, there are already numerous accidents each year. I see near misses every week. It was already dangerous at 50, why speed it up and make accidents more deadly? I just don’t get it!
The first day I noticed the change, there was almost an accident 10 cars in front of me, because the inside lane had nearly come to a stop (like it does daily!). Please change it back!
