Cameras on new Silverdale signal crossarm

The in basket: Jay Hendrick writes, “With all the news about traffic lights on the Bucklin Hill Road, there has been no mention about the objects that look like cameras on those lights. If those are traffic cameras, are they in
operation? If they are there for red light runners, why not place
some at the most flagrant location of red light runners that being
Silverdale Way and Bucklin Hill?

“I see vehicles run through red lights almost every time I have to wait at that location,” Jay said.
The out basket: Those are traffic detection cameras, the same as those in several places up on Myhre Road in Silverdale. County signal techs prefer them to the in-pavement wires that detect metal mass to tell the signal there are cars waiting. They’re a lot easier to repair.
Only the city of Bremerton has any active plans for red light enforcement cameras here so far.
