The in basket: Ernest Behrle e-mails to say, “I’ve been thinking
for a long time that it would help a lot of people living in the
Seabeck areas if Newberry Hill Road were extended through to
Seabeck. According to my maps, if the road were extended
straight west (and it doesn’t have to be perfectly straight) it
would come
out just south of the Seabeck elementary school, opposite the Miami
Beach
Road. That would put access to the road right in the middle of the
Seabeck
area and benefit a lot of people living in that area providing a
straight
shot from the Seabeck area to Highway 3.

“Big Beef Creek would have to be crossed and it is close to a mile
west of the present end of the Newberry Hill Road, so I don’t think
the elevation change would be so great. It
certainly couldn’t exceed the 14 percent grade they now have on
part of the
Anderson Hill Road. Who do I talk to to get something started on
this?”
The out basket: The county Open Line, (360) 337-5777, is the normal
entry point for a suggestion about a county road, but the prospects
for an enthusiastic reception aren’t good.
Doug Bear, who handle public relations for Public Works, tells me
“It would be very costly to complete because of the varied
topography, and several sensitive areas the road would have to
cross.
The idea was considered by citizen committees that helped develop
the
transportation plan in the early ’90s. Projects were rated and this
one
didn’t rank very high because of the challenges mentioned.”
