The Road Warrior column on Nov. 23 quoted a county official saying
the
road, which runs from Gorst to Old Clifton Road in South
Kitsap,
probably was two weeks away from opening. It’s been over seven
weeks.
The out basket: That official, Doug Bear of Kitsap County Public
Works
said a variety of not very obvious projects have been going on
since,
and the county hopes to open the new stretch of road Tuesday.
It was built by McCormick Land Co as part of a land swap that
will
provide the county the new stretch of road and the company the
existing
right of way, which cuts across a parcel it has a need for.
Bear said legal paperwork to foster the land swap, and low
visibility
work like sign installation and curb cuts for handicapped access
has
been going on, a lot of it on Friday. All the bad weather hasn’t
been a
factor.
Another look: Sgt. Bill Playter of Poulsbo Police says the Nov. 30
Road
Warrior that said minors can’t own cars failed to mention three
exceptions. A minor who is in the armed forces, who has been
legally
emancipated or who acquired the car “while a non-resident of this
state”
can own a car, he said. Brad Benfield of the state Department
of
Licensing says Playter is right.
