More than 340 cheerleaders on 15 teams attended the National Cheerleaders Association Camp held at the University of Washington in Seattle Aug. 2nd through 5th.
Four teams of cheerleaders from the Central Kitsap School District were recognized for excellence at the week long event.
Teams from Central Kitsap High School, Central Kitsap Junior High School and two teams from Klahowya Secondary School were named All Americans. In addition, Maggie Zimny, who is the mascot from KSS Varsity, and Johanna Pantig and Ashley N. Esguerra from CKHS, each received one of the 13 individual All-American awards.
Thirty-four CKSD cheerleaders were named Central All-American nominees. Five nominations were given to CKJH Cubs. KSS Middle School Eagles had 10 nominations. CKHS Cougars had 11 nominations, and KSS Varsity had eight nominations. All-American nominees are outstanding individuals who display superior skills in jumps, tumbling, stunting, motion technique, leadership and dance.
In addition to individual recognition, each CKSD team also earned team awards.
The team from CKJH received two spirit sticks, superior ribbons in the cheer and chant categories, technical excellence for stunts and a trophy for “Champion Chant” in the junior high division.
The middle school team from KSS received two spirit sticks, excellent ribbons in both the cheer and chant categories and a technical excellence in chants.
The CKHS team received two spirit sticks, superior ribbons in both the cheer and chant categories and a technical excellence for cheers.
The varsity team from KSS received two spirit sticks, excellent ribbon in the cheer category, superior ribbon in the chant category and technical excellence for game day.
Individual cheerleaders selected to the NCA All-American team are eligible to attend any of the NCA Special Events throughout the year. The national competition will be held in Dallas, Texas, in January 2011.
