A few images found:

• USS Sacramento sails through the Hood Canal Bridge.
• Construction of the JC Penney building in downtown Bremerton.
• Images from a parking lot opening in downtown Bremerton with a whole lot of fanfare (okay fine just balloons but that’s a lot of balloons for a parking lot opening) which makes me think that parking in downtown was as big of a deal back then and it is now.
• Local royalty signing the cast of a wounded serviceman at Naval Hospital.
• A local woman wins a new tv set.
• A “prowling” cow is captured
• Trio of youngsters show-off a six-legged frog

A box of 1968-1969 negatives from the archives of Bremerton Sun photographers is next up on my desk for scanning. Som how I only managed to pull 1969 negatives out for my first few rounds of scanning so this post is all 1969.

A few images found:

• Lions Club members selling lightbulbs, and by the looks of the photos maybe they were selling them to help fund the park since the photo shows lightbulbs oddly stuck in the sand.
• An adorable moment at the Mother’s Day Horse Show.
• The installation of a computer at PSNS.
• A victim of the Bremer’s burglary and the hammer that he was hit with.
• Construction of the JC Penney building.
• Images titled “Travis Drinking On The Job” which I am guessing are of a Bremerton Sun reporter testing out a breathalyzer machine.

• Youngsters scamper after a pig
• A feature on Marines going through training
• 64 cent gas!
• OC Boosters
• A giant pinhole camera
• Slug races (I bet the photographer had to use a very fast shutter speed to catch all that fast paced action!)

• Could these images of the “Annual Hay fever Convention” be the Scotch Broom Festival on Bainbridge Island?
• Very empty shelves at an Albertsons.
• Boeing Hydrofoil Demos.
• Fireworks…and in black and white film fireworks just don’t have the same “oooh ahhhh” factor.
• A floating house on the move.
• The Armed Forces Day Queen is crowned.
• Quite a few accidents in this last few batches of scans- car vs. pedestrian, car vs. motorcycle and car vs car…1978 seems to be the year of the auto accident.

***This is most likely just a “test” roll from a photographers camera just testing out a new mirror replacement.

• Beautiful aerial photographs of the USS Missouri moving through Rich Passage
• The Missouri was also apparently docked in Seattle for awhile, but those negatives didn’t have any date on their sleeve…so I’m just assuning it was 1988 since they are in the 1988 box.
• A clown at Brownsville Elementary School
• The view of Callow Ave. in Bremerton.
• Silverwood School.
• What looks like a few election result type gatherings.

I know I said I only scan one  box of negatives at a time, hence all the 1978 posts recently but I was getting really bored of that box/year so I have moved on to 1988!

That’s right, big hair and leather jacket photos galore!

A few moments that are captured in this batch of scans:

• Do you think Kenny Loggins referred to Bremerton as maybe the “Highway To The Danger Zone”? Or was he just passing through town and decided he “gotta cut loose, footloose”? Okay enough Kenny Loggins song wordplay, apparently he was in concert here…maybe at the Fairgrounds?
• I love the two seemingly random photos only labeled Bremerton High of the two different groups of high schoolers in the cafeteria. One shot of rockers and another of what could be maybe the jocks? I don’t know the context of the images but I love the fashions of each group.
• Poulsbo Teen Center
• Yes even as far back as 1988, chickens crossed roads and got rounded up by animal control.
• Norm Dicks shaking hands.
• An adorable shot of two kids walking around with boxes on their heads.
• Blue Oyster Cult

My goodness this 1978 box of negatives seems BOTTOMLESS!

And yes I realize I say that about every box I start to scan but truthfully I’m thinking that Larry is throwing some negatives in this box because I am still not even halfway through it and it seems to still be as full as when I started.

But enough of my rambling

A few moments that are captured in this batch of scans:

• Shirley’s Shirt Shack! Best biz name ever but also man look at those t-shirts…wish this place was still around!
• Sonics fans line the block and mug for the camera as they wait to buy tickets (well that is what I’m assuming anyway since the negative sleeve only says “Sonics Lineup”).
• The feeding of a pet robin.
• North Kitsap fans cheer on their team.
• Norm Dicks
• A harmonica that really shouldn’t be that big.
• Downtown Port Orchard
• Sidney Hotel
