So I messed up when I was filling out my calendar of due dates and your Green challenge photos are actually due TODAY (March 9th.)

Yeah, my bad.

If you want to hurry up and send me what you have right now that would be great, but if you just don’t have time feel free to send them along later this week and while they won’t be in the running for “stand-out” status since that page will already be designed by the end of today, I will showcase them here and on the Kitsap Frames facebook page.

Again so sorry for the mix-up.

I started a Facebook page for this blog thinking it might be easier to reach people for our photo challenges etc. So if you blog readers are facebookers go ahead and “like” us!

We started up a Kitsap Sun Instagram account in an attempt to keep readers up to date on the things going by using the savvy photo sharing site.

I will post photos from various assignments that Larry Steagall and I are on, behind the scenes shots from the newsroom, spot news photos as they happen and photo contributions from fellow staff writers and editors etc.

So how are those Frames Challenge photos coming? I saw quite a few shutterbugs at the rodeo and fair this week so I’m hoping for lots of entries come deadline on Tuesday!

The coolest part of my job…well okay ONE of the coolest things about my job, is that I get to go places and see things that the general public doesn’t usually get to see.

Hence was the case this week when writer Amy Phan and I ventured to Hansville for a story on the Point No Point Lighthouse renovations. While the public can peek into the lantern of the lighthouse from the ladder and see the fresnel lens, getting this close and personal is usually not allowed because of the fragility of the lens…it already has one giant crack in it.

Since I am from Michigan (the state with the greatest number of lighthouses at 124) I have a great admiration for these beacons on the shore and was thrilled to get to see the inside of this one.
