FRAMES ~ From The Archives 1965-66: USS Connie, a catapult test maybe?, Pacific Ave fire and more!

This box of 1965-66 sure is full of a few puzzling images!

Remember the problems with these really old boxes of negative sleeves is that they usually aren’t labeled with anything except “NEWS” or “SPORTS” and the date. So while I can usually give you just a tiny bit of info on these archive scans- now the info is even less than that for this box.

For example, take the images below of what appears to be a wheeled vehicle of sort being shot off the deck of an aircraft carrier. My goodness it would be nice to have just a few words to go with these photos…my guess is maybe they were conducting catapult tests??? That of course is just a guess.

Take a scroll through the latest scans. I have about two more posts left of this box and then maybe we’ll move on to the 90’s since some color images might be nice to see for a change. 😉

  1. The assumption of carrier catapult testing is correct. A variety of different sizes/weights were launched into the bay to verify the alignment and seals. With regard to other shipyard photos, security was much less strict in those days. Staging for the Armed Forces Parade took place in the shipyard.
