FRAMES: Photo Challenge #94: Autumn STAND-OUTS

Nice work on the Autumn themed photos everyone!

As usual I love the different  shooting styles and subjects shared by everyone who took the time to enter.

Remember there aren’t any winners or losers, I just pick a few photos and ramble on about why they “stand-out” to me for various reasons.

The following photos will be published in the Sunday, November 8th. edition of the Kitsap Sun.

Nothing says Autumn quite like colorful leaves and raking. I really like Steve’s elevated point-of-view for this shot as well as his use of the leading lines of the sidewalk and curb from the right corner of the frame. It is an all around great image depicting this season.

The light in this photo really makes everything in the frame work. Without that beautiful light one wouldn’t see the fabulous details of the ripples of the water, nor would those colors of the leaf be “popping” right out of the frame. It is a beautiful and calming shot.

Since  the jack-o-lantern is composed right in the center of the frame, the viewer’s eyes go straight to it. And even though that green leafy plant is trying to throw off the whole Autumn feel of the image it just doesn’t matter thanks to that bright orange pumpkin right in the middle. This lovely porch scene is balanced out by a sweet little dog standing guard next to the milk box.

I am a fan of “out of the box” creative thinking and capturing a few scattered leaves perfectly framing a wet footprint is just very interesting. I also think that this shot portrays fall in two ways, one being the leaves of course but the other being that sogginess that tends to linger on through the whole season. It’s a very well executed image.

I love the saturated colors and the crisp details of these little mushrooms. While it might be subtle, I also think that the light scattering of dirt still visible on top of their caps is very important to the scene as well because it gives it sense of time and these are obviously freshly sprung mushrooms.
