Seeing the different shooting styles of all you fellow photographers out there and getting the chance to see photos from those who are passionate about wildlife photography is really fun as well as inspiring. We are all so very lucky to live in such a great area with such an abundance of creatures around to capture with our cameras!
This challenge theme is the HARDEST to pick “stand-outs” for because of the high caliber of work and the limited space we have to display them in the print edition.
Don’t forget, there aren’t any “winners or losers”, I just pick a few photos and ramble on about why they stand-out to me for various reasons (composition, subject matter, all around humor etc.)
The following 7 photos are my “stand-outs” and will be published in the Sunday, October 11th. edition of the Kitsap Sun.
***I will also include a a whole bunch of entries beneath the “stand-outs” so everyone can see some of the other really nice shots that I received***
STAND-OUTS:

This photo just cracks me up! I love this furry marmot’s expression and body language as it appears to be yelling at the camera. I have to think that marmot paparazzi might just be a problem at Hurricane Ridge these days.

This frame is just stunning in every way: the colors, detail, composition and subject matter (although the subject matter might be a little risqu to some but hey these are frogs it is what they do in nature). It really is a perfect photograph.

I just love this shot captured by Bob of an other with his freshly caught breakfast. It is a wonderful wildlife moment and one that many have probably never had the opportunity to witness first hand.

I had no idea that there was such a thing as a green heron and now thanks to Janine’s beautiful photo, I know where I will be next summer when these winged beauties arrive in our area. The composition of the heron among the lily pads is wonderful as is the stopped motion of the bird in mid takeoff.

The flock of gulls really adds some great depth and action to this lovely whale shot by Connie.

I really enjoy the composition of this image with the weathered fence in the background giving the image a sense of place. It’s also a great catch of a buck in the middle of what looks like his evening yoga routine.

I really like how the composition of this frame makes it look like the robin is taking a selfie with its newly hatched chick…you know maybe to TWEET out to its twitter followers or something. (Apologies for the bird pun…I just couldn’t help myself)

JUST A FEW MORE OF THE REALLY COOL IMAGES THAT WERE ENTERED:

Love all the pictures!
But I have one question.
Where is Jack C. Harpel? 😉
I was wandering the same thing Lea!
