Nice work on the sunrise/sunset shots! I absolutely love the various hues and foreground silhouettes captured by everyone.
This was a tough batch of photographs to only pick out a few “stand-outs” so I’m picking 6 stand-outs but also going to post just a few of the many nifty frames shared this past month.
The following 6 shots will be published in the Sunday, September 13th. edition of the Kitsap Sun:

Co-photographer Larry Steagall and I feel that a person silhouette is one of the most important parts of a really strong sunset photo. Now many landscape photographers disagree with that and many sunset photos sans people silhouettes are beautiful and strong photos no doubt. This shot of Deena’s is great not only because we see that silhouetted person taking in the view on the right, but the layers of color in the water and sky are just beautiful. Crop out the silhouetted onlooker and it would still be a great photo.

I was surprised by how many photographs featuring sunrises were entered, I guess not everyone groans at the thought of rising before the sun rises, or maybe everyone does groan but taking in the beautiful sky just makes it worth it. Anyway, I just love the movement of the windmill blades captured here against the varied hues of clouds.

While it is only a subtle part of this image, the red trailing car lights cruising down Tracyton Beach Road help draw the eye to the small patch of red sky in the center. This shot is just beautiful.

Noelle is always out there in Manchester snapping beautiful shots of eagles. The composition of this shot is great showcasing all the layers of silhouettes starting with the eagle and moving back all the way to the lighter hue of the mountains.

I like how Lacey’s shot captured the expanse of the wispy cloud filled sky with the tiny moon in the corner.

There were quite a few entries featuring ferries, many which were quite good but I liked this one of Conny’s the best of the bunch because of the glowing lights illuminating the boat and the water. Sure the sunset colors are a bit muted (as most sunsets usually are) but those ferry lights give a burst of color that the sky was missing that night.
