FRAMES: Photo of the day: GAMCON Hipstys

If you were downtown Bremerton this weekend, chances are you saw a bunch of people dressed up in some amazing costumes (which is actually called cosplay: the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime).

The first GAMCON at the Kitsap Conference Center seemed to be a success from the amount of people I witnessed out and about at the convention on Saturday. But it was kind of an overwhelming scene for a photographer because the colorful cosplay outfits were just everywhere!

I  decided to take a bunch of portraits with my iPhone’s Hipstamatic app and put them together as a grid, to give an overall look at some of the many people in the most random attire that were present on Saturday. I chose the most “sci-fi/japanese anime” filter and lens combo I could come up with in the app and just started snapping people against the same wall throughout the day. I stitched them together in a grid and came up with the image below.

It looks a little rough and I was really rushed in getting it done but overall I think it came out pretty nice. It gives an overall look of the convention with a flare of art because of the app filter. But the next time I do something like this I’ll make it a little more refined and easier to read.
