FRAMES: From The Archives Friday: Random pics (including one of Lily Tomlin) from a 1968-1972 box of negs.

So when I started this whole “scan and archive negs when I have time” project of mine I didn’t realize how excited I would be just to get one box halfway finished.

WHOO halfway through one box of negatives!!!

Only 169.5 boxes and 4 file cabinets left to go….oh my I most certainly should not have counted….yikes.

But anyway, here are a bunch of shots from Bremerton Sun Photographer Richard Ellis spanning 1968-1972 and includes a shot of Lily Tomlin, which is both cool and random.

(Also if you need a recap of this whole negative project of mine, and why there is so little information with these photos you can find it here)

  1. Like the picture of the Hydrofoil. Those craft were so cool to watch. I also liked the pic of the Big “E”.

  2. I really enjoy this feature! Nice work Meegan!

Picture 3: it looks more like December than July. Note the coats, long pants, decorations, lights in trees, etc.

Picture 14: any idea where that occurred? It looks like the plane landed on HWY 3., north of where Kitsap Way intersects (looks like the bowling alley in the background). I’m doubting myself because I thought HWY 3 was one lane in each direction until the mid-70′s after they announced Bangor as a Trident base.

    1. Yikes thanks for that July vs. December catch, too many negative sleeves with various dates littering my desk these days!

No idea on the plane landing, there were very few frames of it in the sleeve and nothing in the other shots gave me any indication of where it might be.

  3. I would also like to comment on the pic where they shut down the road for the kids and others to use the road as a snow hill. That looks like so much fun. I am wondering if that was the norm back then to shut down the road for sledders or shut it down cause the road may have been to bad to drive up. I would like to think that it was for the sledders and that the people back then were not to inconvenienced to the thought that kids could have a fun time on a snow day. Because it reminds me of when I was a kid and how we would play some sort of game in the road and the neighbors would just park down the road and walk home til later just so the game did not get interrupted. Bot the good ole days

  4. That’s Cliff. I worked there when McNair was head of photo and Ellis one of his star photographers. Both great guys. Kind and helpful to reporters and editors.
