FRAMES: From the Archive Closet: Armed Forces Day
May 19th, 2011 by Meegan ReidSince I had some time today to catch up on a bunch of office work, I strolled into the photo archive closet and just started grabbing random boxes of negatives off of the shelves and scanning photos of Armed Forces Day.
I was really hoping to get the first photos of the celebration, but alas our negatives only go back to 1959 (the historical society has all our really old negatives). So I have for you all a random mix of Armed Forces Day Parade photos from the 60′s and 70′s and one odd one from 1956 that was just stashed among them all.

My Dad would love these. He was highly involved in the Armed Forces festivities and was named Civilian Grand Marshall the year before he passed. He was quite the man. R.I.P. Pappy.

Man, there are a number of guys out of step in that 1960 photo. I got really finicky about noticing that after I saw a picture of me in a marching band, and I was the only one out of step.

I often wished, when I rented the space, that the balcony that many of these pictures had to have been taken from* was still there.
