I think maybe my “non static kids standing in front of the door in their costumes” plea was too harsh for some shooters since we barely had any entries for our Halloween challenge. Meh oh well, since we had so few entries I will not choose any standouts and instead we are moving onward with photo challenge #31: Free Study.
That’s right, shoot a picture. Heck shoot five pictures. I don’t care where it is shot, what the subject matter is or what techniques you use. Just show me your best photo that you shoot this next week.
If you like portraits, shoot a portrait. If you come upon some quirky graffiti, photograph it. If you love photoshop and all the crazy illustrative things it can do with photos, use it.
I’ll even give you two weekends so the deadline for the challenge will be Monday, November 15, 2010. Since this is such an open challenge I am INSISTING that photos entered must be taken between now (Friday, November 5th.) and the deadline. Don’t make me check your photo’s metadata because I will!
Also please put your name on your entries because we tend to print our standouts in the paper and having your real name instead of your email/user name looks more professional in the print edition.
As usual rules and regulations will be posted at the end of this post.
Here’s a few random pictures I shot this week to get you thinking about what you might want to show us this week:
A leaf twists in the breeze as it hangs from the thread of a spider web on Bainbridge Island on Thursday. (MEEGAN M. REID | KITSAP SUN)
Kingston’s Nicholas Schippers heads for the finish line at Saturday’s Westside Classic cross country meet in Lakewood. (MEEGAN M. REID | KITSAP SUN)
Mike Lempriere, of Perennial Vintners, harvests grapes at his Bainbridge Island vineyard on Thursday. (MEEGAN M. REID | KITSAP SUN)
Sheriff Steve Boyer jokingly strikes a pose after happening upon a photographer lying on the floor of the Kitsap County Administration building (I was attempting to make a picture of art on the ceiling “interesting”). (Meegan M. Reid)

***To recap: Every week we will post a new photography “challenge” to help build on all of our current photography skills and to encourage everyone to get out and get shooting (cameras not guns). While we encourage you to shoot the challenge in the week that it is assigned, we will however accept entries taken prior to the challenge assignment date.
When you’ve got your favorite shot, login to the Kitsap Sun Your Media Site (if you don’t already have a login, you can quickly set it one up) or click the “Kitsap Frames Photo Challenge Entries” button over there on the right side of the page and upload your image to the Kitsap Frames Photo Challenge Channel (the channels run along the left hand side of the page, again if you can’t seem to get it into the channel just upload it normally and send me an email and we’ll move it).
*Sniff, sniff* What’s that smell? Hmm…Wait, now I got it…That’s the unmistakable odor of Meegan being too lazy to choose a photo challenge from her Great Big List of Ideas. 🙂 I’m kidding. I actually like the open-themed idea. I’ll send you something. Promise. I would have done Halloween but I was busy moving all day.
But I didn’t have anyone to confer with when consulting my gigantic list of challenge ideas! Larry just looked at me blankly when I asked him what the challenge should be! I also decided I just couldn’t boss around photogs this week and tell them what to shoot. They and you are on your own- SO BRING IT!. 😉
The photo of Sheriff Boyer cracked me up. Nice one, Meegan.
Hey thanks Candace! I too cracked up when he struck the pose.
I was just wondering how to put the photos I entered onto the account I made? I kinda did it all backwards without realizing it. A friend recently told me about the challenges you give out on here and I got excited, I love challenges. =) Unfortunately I am not computer smart. Is there any way I can turn my photos from ‘Anonymous’ to my name? I apologize if this is the wrong place to post these questions, I wasn’t able to find a help tab anywhere. Thank you for your time!
Hi Faith- A lot of people have made the Anonymous name mistake- and it seems there is no way of changing it once it’s been done unless you start over and create an account in the “your media” site. Uploading it under Anonymous is just fine, just put your name in the title of the photo or in the description so I know who to credit. I look forward to seeing your work!

I also wanted to add a quick note! The photos I entered where posted before I found this weeks challenge rules. So disregard my pictures. LoL I will eventually learn this sites maze. I am anxious for the next challenge though!! =)
