PHOTO: Kitsap Frames Photo Challenge #3 Finals
February 4th, 2010 by Meegan ReidAlright our third Kitsap Frames Challenge has come to a close.
We were looking for true silhouettes- a dark subject against a lighter background and here are our two favorites:
“Shadows” by Roy Burnett (Kitsap Photography Guild)
We liked the multiple silhouettes with the addition of the partially-silhouetted person in the middle in Roy Burnett’s “Shadows” at Yellowstone National Park.

“Eagle posing with lunch on rock in Manchester” by Noelle Morris
The eagle and rock in Noelle’s picture are both silhouetted
against the gray water. You can’t see any of the eagle’s details
(feather colors, eyes etc) just the perfect outline of the eagle’s
shape which is what a true silhouette is.

We will explore silhouettes again for another challenge this summer when it is sunny and bright outside (which makes them easier to shoot).
And I just knew that Sun Photographer Larry Steagall would shoot AT LEAST one this week:
A rider peddles pedals along the Clear
Creek Trail in Silverdale, as the sun makes a rare
appearance. LARRY STEAGALL | KITSAP

NOTE FROM DEREK: Yeah, I changed Larry’s cutline. Pedals. Not peddles. And you wonder why we reporters tease photographers…Then again, they’ve usually got plenty to make fun of when we grab a camera, so it’s all fair.
