PHOTO: Take Better Fireworks Photos

FireworksSo, you’ve got a spot picked to watch the fireworks. You remembered to charge your camera batteries. You have a tripod…(You DO have a tripod, right?) Now, you’re ready to take some fireworks photos.

Instead of writing up a full how-to, the wiki on Wired will do the dirty work for me. CLICK HERE TO READ SOME TIPS ON TAKING BETTER FIREWORKS PHOTOS.

I’ve got the luxury of a front-row seat to the fireworks over Sinclair Inlet, so I attached one I took a couple years ago from my deck.

Have a fun, safe Fourth of July, everyone!

Ok here’s a really ignorant question, but it just occurred to me…

When a big firework, like the one pictured, goes off… does it burst spherically? I mean does it burst out and would it look like a globe if you could get a 360 degree rotational view of it?

For some reason I always thought they were a type of half-spherical burst and would look different if you were looking at it from the North versus looking at it from the South?

Any pyro experts out there that even vaguely understand what I’m trying to ask?

    Regards,
    Kathryn Simpson

    Kathryn,

Wow! Waxing a little philosophical tonight are we?

We had some really good friends who lived in Port Orchard. He was a member of a pyrotechnic club. He would know the answer, but he and his wife bought a business on Maui and moved there about 2 year ago. Bums. I miss the shows he put on every year.

Yeah, and I haven’t even had a glass of wine tonight. ;-)
