PHOTO: Guess What This Is For…

June 22nd, 2009 by Derek Sheppard

Big ol' tire

This huge monster truck tire appeared in an alley next to our building a couple of weeks ago, and caused more than a few raised eyebrows.

Can you guess what it’s for? (And no, it’s not for crushing cars. Sorry)

If you guess correctly, you’ll win a sack full of nothing, so guess as often as you’d like. Don’t be shy.

I’ll have the answer for you next Monday.

  1. Kathryn Simpson Says:

    Soundproofing the audio/video room?

    A team tire swing?

Cushion for the next round of lay-offs?

Op Testing of the new bulk shredder?

  2. Kathryn Simpson Says:

Insulation from the next electrifying news story??

  3. Nikky Says:

You’ll paint it to grey 18% and use it as a rather odd and stationary lighting reference.

  4. derek sheppard Says:

Kathryn, some good ideas, but no. Sadly, our a/v room to be closet space. That tire wouldn’t fit inside.

I’ll leave a couple hints. It isn’t used for anything at the paper, the tire is made of rubber and is round. Hope that helps.

  5. Lucy Says:

Your going to plant tomatoes or potatoes…

  6. 2A Wrestling Says:

It will be incorporated into a children’s play area.

  7. derek sheppard Says:

    Good guesses, but no.

  8. BlueLight Says:

It’s the latest “green” vehicle. Holds one. Works best when going downhill.

  9. Tina Johnson Says:

Pitching Practice or Quarterback Passing Accuracy Practice.

  10. Kathryn Simpson Says:

It is a spare for the vehicle that will be bulldozing your building?

It will be taken to the roof, shredded, melted, and voila…. a new rubberized “green” roof.

  11. Kathryn Simpson Says:

It is the placeholder to ensure that no one takes the editor’s parking spot.

  12. derek sheppard Says:

Nope. He parks in the gravel lot away from the building like the rest of us. Or rides his bike. I could have used such a parking-space saving device in my old office in Poulsbo, though. People parked there ALL the time.

  13. Colleen Smidt Says:

I know…they FINALLY made some much needed upgrades to the Kitsap Sun (computer) server room and this is the wheel for the new Gerbil needed to run it.

  14. derek sheppard Says:

Nope, same sad little gerbil in the server room.

  15. Kathryn Simpson Says:

Bouncy Toy for Sasquatch (trapped in the Kitsap Sun basement for the last seven years and fed only the gerbils that couldn’t hack it in the computer room).

  16. Kathryn Simpson Says:

Ok… I think we need another hint.

  17. Colleen Smidt Says:

Port Orchard needed another place to store their garbage for Cedar Cove Days?

  18. Colleen Smidt Says:

Is Gardner going to use it as another prop in his next song and dance video?

  19. derek sheppard Says:

I’m not sure I can give out any more hints so soon. There’s still nearly a week until the grand reveal. I’ll think about it.

  20. derek sheppard Says:

No, but that’s a good idea. I’ll see what he thinks when he gets back from vacation.

  21. Kathryn Simpson Says:

Ok, it is for a truck.

Maybe sometimes the answer is the unstated obvious one.

  22. Colleen Smidt Says:

So I see the bomb squad has been called to the downtown library across the street from the SUN offices for a “suspicious” package. Did you guys move the tire over there again? Dang it kids!

  23. daveygoliath Says:

It’s a tractor tire, not a truck tire.
It’s being used to add heft and traction to the latest editorial positions.
When you can’t finesse your way through an argument, lay some tread over your de-tractors.

  24. Tim Calnan Says:

It’s used for weight training at Bremerton High School for the football team … or at least they are useing on that looks the same.
    Tim.

  25. Kathryn Simpson Says:

I think davygoliath is on to something. And thanks for the correction on truch versus tractor. Makes sense. ;-)
