Bloomquist park dedication set for Saturday

June 29th, 2012 by Chris Henry

The Rotary Club of Port Orchard is set to cut the ribbon on a county park renovated and renamed in honor of Bill Bloomquist, a retired South Kitsap dentist and father of pro baseball player Willie Bloomquist.

The elder Bloomquist guided hundreds of South Kitsap youth on local Little League teams, and he played an integral role in his son’s formative years in baseball. Bloomquist, who is disabled from a 2002 car accident, may attend according to organizers. Willie Bloomquist is in the midst of regular season play with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and there is no indication he will attend.

The dedication ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Bill Bloomquist Rotary Park. To reach the park, take Highway 16 to the Tremont Street exit. Head east on Tremont, which becomes Lund Avenue. The park is at Lund and Madrona Drive. The entrance is on Madrona.
