Dragonfly Rising: Port Orchard Cinema Reopens Friday
May 26th, 2011 by Chris HenryIn case any of you missed the Kitsap Sun’s most recent article on attempt to revive the cinema in downtown Port Orchard, the Dragonfly Cinema — formerly the Orchard Theatre — will open its doors Friday, with the recent Paul Giamatti indie flick “Win Win” and one of the evergreen cult movies, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”
New owner Gryphon Schafer credits the relatively swift resuscitation of the theater, which closed five months ago, to a cadre of volunteers/fans who call themselves Reel Friends of the Dragonfly Cinema.
What films would you like to see brought to the Dragonfly?

ALL HAIL GRYPHON!
ALL HAIL THE DRAGONFLY CINEMA!
ALL should show up FRIDAY to worship them in person and buy lots of concessions to show your devotion to the efforts the new owner has gone through to reopen this theater for us!
WIN WIN is at 6:30pm
HOLY GRAIL is at 7:00pm

Sad to say with the same prices as the big theater not too sure this place will stay open long. That is the HUGE reason I never go to movies anymore $9.50 for a ticket is far more than I can afford to watch a movie. I do hope it works out though good luck. I miss the old prices and ticket books that Geiger had it was so affordable I could take my kids to the movies all summer but it closed before we could use all the tickets.

The opening was a great success! Things ran way more smoothly than startup expectation might suggest. Not a stutter on the projection side, solid focus, sound just right. Theatre clean and smelling all fresh and renewed. Clean comfy seats with lots of leg room. Snacks and soda fountain in fine order. Popcorn not quite able to keep up with the crowd, but a minor thing. Minor because one of the volunteers was there to bring the delayed very tasty perfect popcorn to your seat dressed in his finest. Oh yes that was movie enthusiast Simon O. doing his best and looking the same.
Oh, and a grand crowd filling almost every seat for WIN WIN.
Come downtown Port Orchard any FRI SAT or SUN to see what I mean.
Beautiful!

Hi Jason,
Many of my movie loving friends are going for the VIP deal. Pay $2.50 and get the VIP card, movies are then $5.00. That sounds better, eh?
See you there!
