Old pal and Bremerton slumlord Chris Kornelis writes on the Seattle Weekly site of his conversation with singer/songwriter/actress Zooey Deschanel, who is married to Olympic High School graduate and Death Cab for Cutie front man Ben Gibbard. Death Cab played at the Admiral once.
If you don’t know Deschanel from the band She & Him, playing in Seattle on Oct. 23, you might remember her from some of her movies. If you have children, you remember her as Jovie (The female object of Will Ferrell’s affection) in Elf. If not, how about Summer in (500) Days of Summer?
Kornelis, still a fan of Bremerton and at least one of its residents, asked Deschanel if she had been to Bremerton, since her husband lives here and all. She has.
“Yeah, it’s really nice, very cute, very pretty. I like it. I haven’t really spent any time in the town of Bremerton. I’ve only been basically to Ben’s parents’ house, which is very pretty. It’s a nice area.”
By nice area she could be including Port Orchard, but I doubt. I mean really. I can’t think of a reason she would go there, unless her music starts playing on Delilah’s show, which is not likely. Not even during Delilah’s seven weeks of Christmas music do I remember hearing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” which was in Elf. That song is about winter, not necessarily Christmas, and I think the male singer in that song is up to no good.
I think I know where Ben’s parents live, and with all due respect I bet my neighborhood is very cuter and very prettier. So Zooey, next time you’re in town, bring yourself and Ben over and let’s sing along by the piano. My kids can play if Ben doesn’t want to, but I think my daughter (Sarah) would love to hear “What Sarah Said” live and in her house. Sascha, my oldest son, would be thrilled to hear from the both of you and would actually long for Christmas vacation to end so he could brag about it at school. I don’t know about Apollo, our youngest. He’s a Fresh Beat Band guy.
