Newberry Hill Heritage Park Gets Some Signage

Brynn Grimley writes:

A draft of the master plan for Central Kitsap’s Newberry Hill Heritage Park is close to being finalized — a review and vetting by Kitsap County Commissioners is all it has left.

In the meantime, while the procedural side continues, volunteers continue to work on the park by maintaining trails and keeping the park functional for its many users.

This weekend, Saturday May 22, it sounds like there will be a bit of a to-do at the park as members of Leadership Kitsap install new signs they made to mark the park’s various trails.

Leadership Kitsap’s Class of 2010, referring to itself as the Newberry Park Trail Team, will be the host of the event Saturday that is set to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On top of installing the signs within the park, the group will also install two kiosks at the main entrances of the park.

Folks from the parks department, the school and county officials have been invited to attend the event at 2:30 p.m. —  I’m assuming they’ll be coming later so they can see the end results of the installation work.

The trail team responsible for the signage includes: Jennifer Fyllingness (Olympic College), Rick Smith (Harrison Medical Center), Mike Eilmes (Puget Sound Naval Shipyard/Intermediate Maintenance Facility), Nancy Frank and Nena Von Sternberg (Skookum).

They’ll host the event in collaboration with their community partners: Kitsap County Parks & Recreation, the Newberry Hill Heritage Park stewardship committee and Klahowya Secondary School’s wood  shop. They’re also hosting with the help of their sponsors: The Home Depot, the Suquamish Tribe, Harrison Medical Center and Skookum.

So if you haven’t explored the park yet, or if you want to help, head out to the Newberry Hill Heritage Park (off Newberry Hill Road near Klahowya Secondary School) Saturday.
