Kendrys Morales

December 20th, 2012 by terrybenish

Yesterday I suggested that the trade was a good deal. It is a one year deal as both will be free agents next year. With Scott Boras as an agent, for Morales it represents an opportunity to play daily and have a salary drive in an enhanced setting that he has performed magnificently before. For Vargas, also on a salary drive, the reverse was true, the setting had fallen apart.

The other way to look at this is at his best, Morales is superior to Vargas. The setting suggests his best will come out.

Does he re-sign with the Mariners? That is problematical, perhaps possible, mostly unlikely.

Short term fall out. I suspect Mike Carp got drunk last night after calling his agent and screaming to get him out of here. I may be over my skis on this, but I think this puts Smoak in Tacoma with an admonition to take advantage of his opportunity when and if it comes. Depending on spring training, Zunino may make the team, which might see Montero in Tacoma too.

Wooden head was concerned that Zunino did not throw well in Arizona Fall League. He threw fine in Everett and Jackson. Might have been worn out. Suspect he’s been working on that as we huddle in front of fire.

Merry Christmas!
