Kendrys Morales a Mariner

December 19th, 2012 by terrybenish

Intra-division deal with Angels to get power hitting Angel first baseman. He returned after breaking his leg in May of 2010 and missing all of 2011. The interesting tell is that he struggled his first few months back, but his August and September OPS was .900 and .865.

Whether he’s a dh or first basemen will be determined in spring training when they see his mobility. It is premature to say if this affects Montero or Smoak more. The acquisition reminds me of the Brett Boone acquisition in that he was coming off an injury.

It is a good deal.

Vargas is three or four elsewhere. He gave up 72 extra base hits last year, 35 bombs. 26 of those were away last year in smaller parks, which Seattle is moving towards this winter. Homers allowed has gone up each of last four years.

They are each arb eligible and Morales is cheaper. Both Free Agents after next season.

Best deal in years.

Finally some real action from the Z man. I like this trade, more than likely Morales continues to get back to his old self and mash the ball. Plus he wont be killing the Mariners any longer, I will go out on a limb and say he will have a good year. Hopefully the M’s make him another offer prior to him going to free agency.

Hi Stan, Merry Christmas. He’s a Boras client and Boras has his eyes on an East Coast team to push him, if not Texas, which means it is not likely he resigns here. Lots of moving parts for sure. Jeremy Bonderman signed could be an enormous lift to team. Think about Cliff Lee deal. Chance for Jack to make amends.
