The Winter Meetings are over, how to sum it up

December 6th, 2012 by terrybenish

Well there is Jason Bay and I don’t want to write more about that. Then there is the rule five guy, Eric Farris, a middle infielder in the Brewer’s system. He’s had six years in Brewer’s system and has ten major league plate appearances. He has very little chance of ever playing in Seattle barring a Miami Toronto kind of thing and probably not even then.

I must tell you my efforts to follow the last four days have been via phone and other communications. The results to date are consistent with my expectations going into the meeting. But I have been told that the Mariners really have been trying to get something done to the point of trying to get Nick Swisher under contract. Then there is Josh Hamilton, yes no, then maybe. Michael Bourn, Derek Holland, a mystery catcher.

If the Mariners were totally disingenuous they could send their acquisition team, Chuck, Jack, Eric and a few others and then underbid on everything. How would you know? How would anybody know, just Chuck would have to know.

Then there is another point which was bought up by that tub of goo, buffoon Kevin Millar on MLBNetwork’s Intentional Talk show. He was talking about the Mariners signing Hamilton and he said they would have to way overpay and that is not going to happen. Pearls from a swine.

All that said, the stance that I’m hearing from my peeps is that the Mariners are trying to get a big fish in the boat. If that does not happen it would be a normal thing for them to make a bad deal out of desperation. That would set this rebuild effort back a lot.

Let’s watch and see.

I sought out comment on the apparent psychosis regarding Casper Wells and it is said that the team does not like how he goes about his work before the game. None of that is measurable and is maybe true or maybe not. But maybe you don’t sign Bay if this weirdness was not in play.

Peace out.
